Great Green Gobs of Greasy, Grimy Gopher Guts

I became an instant hero when I taught D and E this song on a roadtrip. It has now been sung thousands of times for friends, family, teachers and people in line at the hardware store. Abuela (my mom) had to try to one-up me later this summer by teaching them songs about eating cow manure and vomiting. It's so appropriate that the kids have a love of talking about disgusting bodily functions and we felt that the title of this blog really captured the essence of our family's spirit.

Gentle Giant

How cool is this Tae Kwon Do video of our girl smashing through a board like it is a pretzel stick? After recently attaining the rank of fifth geup (green belt with a blue stripe), D has now hit the big time...the ADVANCED class.

But don't get the wrong idea and start thinking she's all about busting heads...She also won runner up in a poetry contest sponsored by the county intermediate school district in honor of the Dalai Lama's visit to Ann Arbor. The following poem, written last year in second grade, is one of only ten poems that was bound into a book presented to Mr. Lama himself. She will be reading this poem at Borders at a special poetry reading of all of the winners at a date to be announced.

I'm As Bright

I'm as bright as the sun.
I'm as bright as summer.
I'm as bright as the whole world with sharing, peace,
kindness, goodness.
There is no bad stuff happening.
The world brings peace and stays peace for as long as
everybody and the people that are going to come.
Make peace for yourself and other people and the
people that aren't here yet, but they're going to
come.

Hello

I still check your blog (usually after visiting Erica's) and wanted to congratulate D on the poem--it's wonderful.

Maybe we'll see you sometime once Erica and Flan are back in Michigan :-)

thepoagesTia Pate thinks your poem is awesome (and I've never used that word before to decribe someone or something!!). I am going to make a copy of it and use it for my meditation book...sure gives one something to think about. Thank you.... Knowing that these are your thoughts and who you are and from whence you came, your thoughts are inspirational.

Wowee I had to pick Aunt Patsy up off the floor -- she was so excited to read your poem. She yelled for me to come running to the computer. Congratulations -- wish you could come to Florida.

Wow. That board smash thing is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations, little warrior. You will always be able to defend yourself and be strong. Also appreciate that special gentle side of you reflected in your beautiful poem. California Grandma
