IT'S A GIRL!
Lucia Hope was born Tuesday October 17, 2006 at 5:18 PM. She was 7 pounds 11 ounces, 21 inches long and despite swallowing her own poop in utero, then barfing it up for the next two days, she is perfect! She came out without abdominal surgery - I still can't believe it. Jeff video taped the event which I am fearful of watching. I will concur with those who warned that the experience was incredibly excruciating. Certain parts of labor were actually similar to my appendix rupturing. I will disagree with those that theorize that you "forget: the pain as soon as the baby is born. We spent one more day in the hospital due to her barfing and lack of interest in breastfeeding, which meant that I had the pleasure of seeing no less than six lactation consultants in two days who spent an approximate total of ten hours manhandling my breasts while Lucia slept contentedly with my nipple in her mouth. She sleeps 23.5 hours a day, even eating in her sleep from a nifty little device that we have to tape to our finger until she gets the hang of breastfeeding. In all of my spare time I am hooked up to a milking machine and when I am not hooked up to the milking machine, I am sitting on a plastic donut seat eating mass quantities of food and marveling at our newest child. I have slept maybe ten hours in four days and actually am not minding it as much as I thought I would. I am on an adrenaline high from the last week. I will have more detail to add soon. I must get an hour of sleep before I hook up to my milking machine...

Lucia is gorgeous! And you are looking pretty good yourself, Katie. Considering how much your family values good food and likes to eat, I should hope this "little eating poop not breastmilk" thing is cleared up soon. Of course, I'd expect nothing less from a daughter of yours (you know, exploring poop at such a young age!).
Yaaay! Congratulations, Katie! She is beautiful.
She is beautiful! I will make sure not to tell my sister about the excruciating pain and the lack of amnesia. I was totally banking on the fact that people were exaggerating the pain. The only words of comfort that I got from my mom was that women have been doing this for hundreds of years.
My sister goes in on Monday for induction. I more than likely will not be here for when my sister gives birth, but I've had a good time spending time with her and my nephew.
See you all soon!

Congrats. What a great little one you have! Now that Sophie is one year this week and I am missing those first few weeks when she was so dependent upon us. It all goes too fast. The pain. Yes, you do not forget. Maybe after 30 years or so. Sophie was also a problem eater. She fell asleep at the boobie every time. I used to have to tickle her chin to get her to keep eating. She still falls asleep at the boobie at night and wakes up 1 hour later because she did not eat enough before bed. She is a boobie addict. Loves to sleep with the boobie. Sounds like you might have one too. Good luck. Enjoy and nap whenever you can.
Katie,
She's beautiful!! Can't wait to meet her. Take care of yourself and keep us posted!!
CONGRATS! I will echo the other comments - she is gorgeous! I am excited to hear about all your adventures!
