I decided to play rugby this spring and yesterday was my last game. We won and I had a pretty good game. I tackled a bunch of large angry women, made a few runs, and inspired some nasty comments from my opponents. Today I feel (and kind of look) like I was run over by a large vehicle. All in all it was a nice day, cool and sunny and perfect for rugby. The kids had a great time at the party which consisted of hot dogs, hamburgers, Oreos, water balloon toss/fights, a ginormous sand pit, guitar playing/sing along, and raucous kickball game. The big kids came to three games this season but really had no interest in watching me play, more attracted to the river and the play structure than watching their old mom knock heads with people. I found this surprising, but I guess really it's a neat thing that they find this hobby of mine mundane and not that remarkable. I think perhaps this speaks volumes about how far we have come as far as gender/mommy expectations. Anyway, it was a large sacrifice for my whole family to allow me this pleasure of "seeing if I still had it" so to speak and I thank them. SInce I am the videographer/picture taker in the family, you will not have the privilege of seeing me in action on the blog.
E is having a blast playing baseball. The games are 2-3 hours long and there are twelve of them in a span of eight weeks. Sometimes they get through the 8-12 person batting order 2-3 times an inning. The fielding for all teams in the league leaves a lot to be desired. Now, I love sports and I love even more to watch my children play sports, but three hours of pee wee baseball is a bit insufferable at times. Plus, the field is located downwind of the city wastewater treatment plant.
Also, since there was such a positive response to D's board breaking video, here is the other one from the same testing day. This one is a cross behind side kick.id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5201942710638929202">
