She's gaining! Yesterday our little piglet weighed in at 9 pounds 2 ounces. The pediatrician said that at this point most kids are just getting back to their birth weights (she was 7 pounds 11 ounces). That's our girl! She is sleeping pretty well but is ravenous in the late night and early morning hours. It seems like just after she's done eating and I am done pumping and cleaning all of the milking equipment, she's screaming again for more. So we're stuffing her late at night in hopes that it will tide her over for a four or five hour stretch.
We now have had three breastfeeding gurus suggest after looking at Lucia's tongue that she is "tongue tied" and that this is the reason behind the trouble with breastfeeding. The treatment for this is clipping a tiny bit of the frenulum (the membrane that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth). This sounds horrible although many people have told us that it doesn't hurt it does sound equivalent to mouth circumcision to me. Anyway, they assure me that it won't hurt and that Lucia will breastfeed immediately after it's done. We are hoping to see the specialist early next week to see about this...
Jeff made a Thanksgiving dinner tonight in honor of his mom's visit since she won't get to spend Thanksgiving with us. I ate so much I have a belly ache. We didn't have a container big enough to hold the leftover mashed potatoes so Jeff's mom put them in the container that holds our containers which is more like a bin.
E's last soccer game was tonight. They started out the game one player short, so the ref lent D his shinguards and the other coach let D wear her orange jersey and she played with his team. She was really nervous, but did a great job chasing down the ball. E also had some good plays but spent most of the game on the ground wallowing in the goose poop that covers the grass at the park. E doesn't seem to be able to stay on his feet much. He runs at the ball or the sideline or the opponents or his own teammates, lets out a karate chop noise, makes a kicking motion, then falls to the ground. It would be comical, except that he is often detrimental and dangerous to others, and I think he does it to get laughs.
Halloween was great! The kids got lots of good candy that I have been steadily poaching. Lots of chocolate and gummy candies and very few items that fell into the useless category such as Smarties, Dum-Dum suckers, Bazooka bubble gum and those nasty caramels with the chalky white center. I feel like I always got at least 30 packages of Smarties all of which had to be thrown away the next Halloween to make room for the new candy. The kids got so much that they haven't noticed that all of their 100 Grand Bars, Snickers, Milky Ways, Pay Days and Almond Joys are steadily decreasing in quantity.

Katie,
So glad to hear Lucia is gaining. Yeah! I had no idea tongue tied was actually a real thing. Let us know how it goes. Now I see that I had it really easy with Sophie just being an immediate sleeper. We only had to get her to stay awake long enough to drink an oz or 2. I should probably email this separate, but time is limited when you have a crazy crawler. FedEx will be bringing Chicago deep dish pizza from Chicago on Thursday. No need to be there. They will leave it no matter what. It is packed in dry ice. Bake and eat it then or stick it in your freezer for a more desparate food day. Sorry, they won't ship pies with meat. I remember those early weeks and trying to get dinner on the table. Enjoy. I have been missing Chicago lately. Have the need to share one of our favorites. Take care. Thinking of you.
