Great Green Gobs of Greasy, Grimy Gopher Guts

I became an instant hero when I taught D and E this song on a roadtrip. It has now been sung thousands of times for friends, family, teachers and people in line at the hardware store. Abuela (my mom) had to try to one-up me later this summer by teaching them songs about eating cow manure and vomiting. It's so appropriate that the kids have a love of talking about disgusting bodily functions and we felt that the title of this blog really captured the essence of our family's spirit.

Yesterday we allowed the ENT to butcher our baby's tongue in the name of breastfeeding. Actually Lucia basically fell asleep immediately following having her frenulum sliced with a sharp tool. The doctor promised that she wold wake up within the hour after the numbing agent had worn off and would probably cry for one to two hours! WHAT? Well, she didn't seem to have any pain actually and the tongue does seem much more mobile so I was hopeful about the prospect that she would latch on pretty qucikly. Well, I spent all day in bed today with Lucia trying to interest her in breastfeeding. She either thinks that my naked chest is the mostly heavenly pillow in the world to sleep on or she is clawing and screaming in protest at the sight of it. She still does not seem too keen on breastfeeding. So the pumping continues. We have conceded to pumping the milk into the regular bottles. I can't imagine that she could get more disinterested at this point and having her suck on our pinkies with a tiny tube attached for hours every day was getting really old. I am beginning to feel disdain for anyone I see blissfully breastfeeding their babies. I must stop watching TLC baby shows.

We had a family movie night tonight with popcorn and Faygo Rock and Rye. We watched "Rudy"! D really got into the message the that the little guy can come out on top with a lot of hard work. E mostly liked the football scenes. He thought he saw his cousin Joe in some of the scenes.

Hockey starts this weekend and I am toying with the idea of playing. I can't wait to see how exercise feels after all this time. I didn't do much during the pregnancy and E thinks that I am incapable of running. He has only known me as a pregnant person. That's weird.

My Dad won his election last night - County Commsioner in a heavily Republican "up north" District. Must have had something to do with the Foley backlash... Or maybe it was the candy bars I told him to give out? Congrats Dad.

Haven't posted here yet, though I have been lurking. I am amazed and impressed by your struggle to breastfeed beautiful little Lucia. You are one strong mama, and she is very lucky!
